Dear Candidate,

Thank you for your interest in Carson Cares and our Youth Advisory Board. Carson Cares is a non-profit organization focusing on Teaching Kids How to Help Others. We are excited to offer this opportunity to the public for the first time and we cannot wait to learn about you.

Before you apply for this position, explore our website, www.carsoncares.org and familiarize yourself with what we do, who we serve, and how we do it. This position is intended to offer you a way to learn about the non-profit world and leadership in general. It is great for college applications and resumés, but it should also be something you enjoy doing.

The application process will go as follows. First you will submit your application and our board will review it to determine whether you might be a good candidate for our Youth Advisory Board. Then you will attend an interview with some current Youth Advisory Board Members and we will go from there to determine how you can serve Carson Cares. In the meantime, while your application is being reviewed, it is suggested that you attend and volunteer at one of our events. If you are selected as a Youth Advisory Board Member, you will be required to attend quarterly meetings and all of our events which happen once or twice a month usually along with other responsibilities that may arise.

The Carson Cares Junior Leaders Board is an exclusive opportunity for youth to be involved in the process of giving back to the community in a formal setting. The time commitment is not exhausting but it is important. All Junior Leaders Board Members must be present at all board meetings which occur once every quarter of the year and at all Carson Cares functions aside from the board meetings which occur once or twice every month except in special situations where arrangements have been made. If a member must miss a meeting or other function, the Youth Advisory Board Chair must be notified prior to said function and arrangements will be made. Junior Leaders Members may be asked to do things outside of the meetings like leading individual projects or doing tasks such as creating a budget for a project, or writing a reflection. Junior Leaders Board members are expected to commit to serving at least two years on the board. However, members are strongly encouraged to remain active until their senior year of high school.
